ROMAN KLEINSTEIN Wellington, NZ

Roman Klienstein is Swiss-born and come over to New Zealand to work as a roof plumber. While in this trade, Roman worked with copper in roofing, wall cladding, guttering and downpipes and discovered its beauty, strength and workability. He started making art with copper in his spare time and what started as Christmas presents for family is now being sold and displayed in galleries. Roman treats the copper with heat to make it soft and moldable while also changing its colour in a process called oxidation. Each item is then cut and formed using special tools to create beautiful, hand-made art.
