PALOMAR - ITALY
Our company’s name – Palomar – was taken from the main character
in Italo Calvino’s novel, "Mr Palomar".The book is about skies and
stars, lawns and waves, and about man
who observes and contemplates skies and stars, lawns and waves.
The company’s origins are rooted in the great Florentine optical
engineering heritage and goes back to 1956. We are now a firm that conceives, designs and produces a highly
select group of items with a specific cultural accent and each
relates to Mr. Palomar’s world: the gaze (telescopes, binoculars,
eyeglasses), chronological and meteorological time (perpetual calendars, barometers and thermometers) and space – heaven and
earth – (globes and maps). Our ambition is to offer "timeless” pieces that satisfy the most
simple, and most basic needs and this is what releases them from
the vagaries of fads and fashions. We can consider it a sort of counter-melody to
the overwhelming spread of digital technology. It is our way of saying that there is, indeed a more human, more
ironic and perhaps even more attractive dimension that can coexist
with technology and its presumed imperatives. |
