RED HOT GLASS - LUCY MITCHELL

Lucy Mitchell trained and worked as a chef in her ‘former life’. But, even in the kitchen, she had an irrepressible urge to express her creativity through sculpture…back then, the medium at hand was margarine! After winning a silver award for her margarine sculpture in the annual Bay of Plenty Salon Culinaire, she set off to enjoy five years of overseas travel. Always attuned to the artistic expressions and themes of different continents, Lucy felt especially drawn to the cultural art of Africa. Back home in New Zealand, Lucy established a garden sculpting enterprise using Hinuera Stone as a medium.‘Red Hot Glass’ was her next artistic venture - the vibrancy of colour, portability and light-weight nature of glass provide a refreshing change for Lucy, as she continues to explore new designs creating a fusion of African and South Pacific cultures.
