Rolled Copper Rata Earrings Large
The Southern Rata is an iconic bright red flowering native tree found in both Islands. It has disappeared from some areas as it is a favourite food of the possum. It's classic spear-shaped bright green leaves with distinctive fine veination are a reminder of the preciousness of our native forest heritage. These pieces spring from a love of these beautiful trees. To make these earrings rata leaves are put through a rolling mill and each leaf is then hand cut. The leaves are then filed, sanded, polished and the red oxide coating is applied. Classic leaf shaped sterling hooks complete the look.
