The clematis is the best known flower in the New Zealand bush, with a profusion of starry, delightfully fragrant white flowers in early spring followed by fluffy silvery seed heads in Autumn. The Sacred Flower - in Maori folk lore, it was regarded as one of the first born children of the two stars, Rehua and Puanga, its first blossoms indicating the coming of summer.
