This hand-carved ceramic sculpture of the Kārearea (NZ Falcon) by Wellington artist Warren Mills honours New Zealand’s only endemic falcon. In Māori tradition, the Kārearea is often seen as a guardian or a messenger from the spiritual world, with a cry said to foretell shifts in the weather. A true master of the skies, this raptor is capable of reaching speeds over 100km/h in a high-speed "stoop" or dive. Warren’s work brings these sharp, alert features to life, highlighting the intricate markings that define this iconic bird of prey.
