This beautiful pounamu (NZ greenstone) pendant was crafted by master carver Ross Crump (Ngāi Tahu).

Manaia - Means containing Mana (prestige and power). It has the head of a bird, the body of a human and the tail of a fish, representing the sky, earth and sea. It is your guardian angel. It is a spiritual piece that protects the wearer from evil and bad things.

The Hei Matau is a fascinating and culturally significant piece. The indigenous people of New Zealand, Maori, used Hei Matau similar to this one, to fish. Today, the Hei Matau pendant is believed to bring the wearer good luck during journeys, especially when travelling over water.
