These are beautifully warm soft possum merino scarves. They are light and very snugly, perfect for a winters day. The weaving pattern used for these possum merino scarves is called dornick twill. It used two different variations of this pattern as well as a different colour. Woven by Tasman textile artsit Jane Clark NZ.

The yarn used is New Zealand possum merino with a small portion of silk, a lovely light soft yarn. The bushtail possum was introduced to New Zealand by European settlers and is considered a pest due to the destruction of native flora and fauna. Due to the hollow fibres of possum it is lightweight and can trap air which means more warmth. Merino sheep are regarded as having some of the finest and softest wool of any sheep. These two fibres combined with silk make for a luxurious light warm classically New Zealand yarn.

The scarf is approximately 74 by 9 inches (191 x 23cm) excluding the fringe. The fringe is approximately 4 inches (10cm) long and has been twisted which as well as giving a nice touch to the scarf it also helps protect those warp ends from wear. The scarf has been hand stitched at either end which helps with preserving the scarf and also another feature to help complete the hand woven look.
