Deane Moreton learnt his craft whilst working alongside his father in the family pounamu (greenstone) business. With over 30 years’ experience in sourcing and handcrafting New Zealand Pounamu, Deane is now one of New Zealand’s experts in the industry.

Each piece of jewellery that Deane designs is inspired by New Zealand’s rich culture and natural beauty. His collections feature traditional cultural and natural elements, and each design tells a story of New Zealand.

The Hei Toki Blade is a culturally significant symbol within the Māori culture, representing courage and strength, particularly in times of difficulty. These blades were carved to be used as chisel tools for the practice of Whakairo (traditional wood carving), to craft Marae (meeting houses) and Waka (canoes). Hei Toki pendants were also worn by Māori elders to symbolise power, wisdom and authority.

The Koru design is inspired by one of New Zealand’s most sacred symbols of nature, the silver fern. The fern begins life in a spiral shape before it fully matures. Much like the young fern, the koru design represents nature, new life or new beginnings.
