Handcrafted by Hal Martin, this exquisite wooden jewellery (taonga) box is fashioned from salvaged Rimu and Matai timbers and lined with velvet to safely store your treasures. Its unique charm comes from Hal's skill in repurposing vintage furniture, breathing new life into forgotten pieces and transforming them into beautiful heirlooms.
Almost all of the timber Martin uses is repurposed from old furniture or salvaged from historical buildings. This means some pieces are native New Zealand timbers from locally made furniture, while others are European with unknown origins. Many of these timbers are now rare and difficult to find as they are no longer being logged in New Zealand. This makes them incredibly precious and special—each box holds a piece of history, and you may never see these particular timbers in their "virgin" form again.
