Kawakawa is a pretty coastal shrub with heart shaped long stemmed green leaves and an edible fruit with a distinctive tropical taste and contrasting peppery seeds. The heart shaped leaves remind us of the preciousness of ourselves, the land and our native ecosystems.  
 
Duncan MacKay hand cuts each Kawakawa leaf from copper, shapes with a file, sands, soldiers and then adds a pattern with a scribe. A Silver plate backing is also cut to the same shape. Silver wire is then used to carefully thread through the small holes drilled in the copper Kawakawa leaf and the silver backing to hold the two pieces together. Sterling silver hooks are then added.
