This ceramic mug features a hand-painted fantail (pīwakawaka in Te reo Māori) carved in a block-print style using underglaze. The fantail is left unglazed, creating a tactile, contrasting texture to hold. Handcrafted by Andi Hoffmann.

When Andi moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2024, the gentle chirps and distinctive calls from the fantail (pīwakawaka) brought an instant sense of joy and connection, feeling like a visit sent from loved ones above. In Te Ao Māori, pīwakawaka’s are viewed as messengers from the spirit world, sometimes bringing news from their ancestors.
