This is a print of Rob Barrington’s painting called "Kereru at South Taranaki"

When I created this piece, I wanted to capture the spectacular journey from Whanganui to Taranaki, a path that offers breathtaking views when the weather cooperates. As the road winds and curves, the majestic shape of Mt Taranaki emerges, enveloped in a renaissance of clouds that evoke a sense of awe.

The villas scattered across the landscape—from farmhouses to townships—are iconic homes that I meticulously represented in the painting. I aimed to encapsulate a memory that connects all these dwellings, celebrating their unique charm.

Among the many native and domestic birds that grace these lands, the Kereru, or native wood pigeon, holds a regal presence. It's a bird that commands attention, often causing you to pause as it majestically flies overhead. This sense of wonder and connection to the natural beauty of the Taranaki region is what I strived to convey through my artwork.
