This sculpture by Messini Palace honours Uenuku, a powerful Māori ancestor and the atua (god) of the rainbow. Revered as a tribal war god, Uenuku's presence was crucial before conflicts, particularly in the North Island. Warriors looked to the rainbow for a sign: appearing directly under the arch meant defeat, while flanking the rainbow signaled a guaranteed victory. His sacred associations also include hawk feathers and the star that bears his name.
