Likely carved for the tourist market circa in the 1980s, Messini found this vintage Wheku as a simple keyring holder, made of wood with pāua eyes and a metal hook protruding from his extended Pūkana (tongue). By removing the hook and casting out the hole in stone, Messini has restored him to a kaitiaki (protector) to be gifted and treasured.

Each Wheku is individually handmade, making every piece subtly unique.
